Die Welt als Wille und Vorstellung e Paralipomena und Parerga di Arthur Schopenhauer sono le opere più significative nelle quali possiamo trovare le principali tracce di una riflessione intorno alla musica. Concentreremo pertanto la nostra attenzione su questi scritti e su queste fonti. Nostro intento sarà quello di accertare in che modo la musica possa essere intesa come una metafora del Mondo. Dovremo tener conto in ogni caso che la musica ha uno status diverso da quello delle altre arti: la musica incarna la Volontà stessa, mentre le altre arti la esprimono mediante concetti. La musica è immediata, è l’essenza di ogni essere; la musica non è un’idea, ma l’origine di tutto.
Ciò detto, andremo a valutare anzitutto se la musica possa essere assunta come un’analogia, come un simbolo, come un’allegoria, o più semplicemente se abbia un rapporto isomorfico con il mondo. In secondo luogo cercheremo di comprendere se la musica sia una metafora esplicita o implicita del mondo: la musica non può rappresentare infatti il principio di individuazione e il principio di ragion sufficiente, giacché essa non è una scienza. La musica può rappresentare qualcosa solo in senso astratto, non in senso specifico. La pura musica strumentale sarà pertanto l’unica forma di rappresentazione della Volontà stessa.
Arthur Schopenhauer nos plantea sus principales reflexiones acerca de la música en las obras Die Welt als Wille und Vorstellung y Parerga und Paralipomena. Centraremos nuestra investigación pues en estas fuentes con el objetivo de precisar hasta qué punto la música puedes ser una metáfora del mundo, habida cuenta que la música no tiene el mismo cometido que las otras artes, es decir, manifestar la voluntad a través de las ideas. La música no puede mediar, la música, al ser la misma voluntad, es inmediata, ella misma es el Ser, no es ni una idea, ni un concepto. Después de analizar con precisión si realmente la música puede ser una metáfora del mundo, indagaremos si lo que representa la música es el mundo de manera análoga, de manera simbólica, alegórica, o si solo asistimos a un paralelismo o isomorfismo entre música y mundo, ya que la metáfora puede darse de diferentes maneras. A su vez, intentaremos vislumbrar si la música es una metáfora del mundo de manera explícita o implícita, ya que todo apunta a que la música no puede representarlo bajo el principio de individuación y el de de razón suficiente, porque no es una ciencia. La música solo puede representar algo en sentido abstracto, nunca en sentido individual. Así pues, la música instrumental pura será la única capaz de representar la voluntad en el sentido esencial de la misma.

Therefore, we will focus the research on these writings, on these sources. The aim will be to clarify how music can be understood as a metaphor of the World. However, we have to take in consideration that music is different from the others arts because music is the Will itself and the other arts express the Will, of course, but with concepts. Music is immediate, is the essence of the essences, music is not an idea, is the origin of all.
After that, we can consider if music can be treated as an analogy, as a symbol, as an allegory or, merely, as the isomorphism between music and world. In turn, we will try to discern if music is an explicit or implicit metaphor of the world, that music can not represent the Principle of Individuation and the Principle of Sufficient Grounds because music is not a science. Music can only represent something in the abstract sense, not in the individual sense. Thus, the pure instrumental music will be the only way to represent the Will itself.
